When B
IS FOR BULLDOZER came out, my
editor encouraged me to write another fun ABC book for
pre-schoolers. I started to write a book in which pirates
treasure hunt for the ABC's which I named
SHIVER ME LETTERS. I began the difficult task of
combining a pirate story, the alphabet and my beloved rhyme
into a cohesive picture book. After a few weeks my editor
asked to see what I was working on. I told her, in my opinion,
the manuscript was not in submission condition. At her insistence
I faxed the unfinished text. She brought it to the acquisition
meeting and Harcourt bought my second book.
