One stormy Saturday night
in June our plane departed from Kennedy Airport for the
flight home to Los Angeles. Fifteen minutes after take off
we heard the sound of a loud gunshot. This is not the sort
of sound you ever want to hear on an airplane especially
in these post 9/11 days. Our airplane had been hit by lightning.
There was a hole on the side of the plane and we had to
return to the airport. My son was with me and it was a frightening
experience for both of us. What do you do when your airplane
is struck by lightning? You take the train home – of
course!
It was quite an adventure and the best
way for us to deal with our post-traumatic stress. As I
rocked in my berth one night, I thought about the sounds
and sights of train travel. I decided to write a good night
story about a train. I frantically began to take notes and
write verses. When I returned home THE GOOD NIGHT TRAIN
began to take shape.
By the way since “the incident” we
have flown many times but I have not been moved to write
THE GOOD NIGHT PLANE!! |
